I use these Mid Atlantic pullout /rotate racks and they are really very
practical, the ability to rotate is absolutely vital if you have a lot
of cabling to attach to the rear and the rack is recessed into a wall or
cupboard. The bigger units need  'legs' that you attach to the base so
that when pulled out they dont topple forward but the mid range dont
(they are self supporting) . I have just the mid 4 feet or so extending
in a rack and have a couple of really heavy AV Amps situated in the base
of the rack.

An alternative is a rack unit on wheels so the whole lot can slide out
for rear access - or getting slide rails that are long enough to bring
the rear of the shelf a foot or so forward from the rack so you have
rear access to the kit on the shelf from above or below.
