No sky+ and Optical Out = No Surround

Unless you have Sky+ feeding a dolby Amp via optical you have nothing to
check!

So, without an optical out I'm not gonna get surround sound through
my MCE box like I do if I play DVD's? I'm not bothered if it's
digital just want surround if it's available. Is there a way I can
check?
