Re: Plasma screens and cables

> Any comments or experiences would be appreciated.

No experience (yet) but will be getting something in the next 2-3 months.
I think the way to go has got to be a screen with a breakout box for all
the connections - that way there is only one cable going to the screen
itself.

Neatness aside, there are issues like what if it's got a HDMI interface
and you want to use it? KAT5 isn't going to help you there - thought it
will, of course, with analog devices.

I've been looking at the Pioneer PDP-434/435 (want to get a good look at
the 435 before I decide), both of which use breakouts and have said HDMI.

I don't know what the standard cable length is, but I know there is a 10m
and a 30m (optical) option.
Unfortunately, whilst 30m would do me to get back to node0, there's just
no way I can route the cable there without ripping up my floor again. No
chance :)

So what I will probably end up doing is going for the 10m option and
moving the dvd player BACK into the lounge (or rather, buying a new one
with HDMI and putting THAT in the lounge) to take advantage of HDMI, at
the end of a 10m cable.
I would continue to use KAT5 to distribute the DVD back to node0 for
distribution around the place, and indeed take a feed from node0 of other
devices to the breakout box over KAT5 too.

Dunno if this helps at all, but is something to think about maybe....

cheers,

T.
