Some small UPSs are cheap because....
1) They cut back on batteries.  Eg. use a single 12v5Ah instead of
two 12v7Ah (a third of the runtime!).
2) When running on batteries they output a crude square wave instead
of a sine wave.  Square wave output can cause interference on some
equipment.
3) Minimal front panel info.  Eg. One on/off button and one LED.

And lastly they are greatly misleading on battery runtime by not
stating the load.  You'd never achieve anything like their stated
runtimes if using a standard PC + monitor.
