One thing to bear in mind is whether the location of your
modem/router/wireless device is suitable for coverage in your house. My
ADSL modem is sat in the 3rd bedroom at the moment, but my access point is
half way up the stairs. If I move the WAP to the ADSL modem, then I lose
connectivity in the lounge. Another bonus is that you can stick a
firewall/VPN server between the wireless/wired network with separates.
Separate devices are more flexible, but if you are lucky enough to get good
coverage from where your ADSL line terminates, then go for it.
