Re: Remote Control Garden Gate

Are you up for rolling your own? Does it have to be PC based?

If the answers are yes and no then there was a small circuit board a while
back which worked using one wire. Essentially you learnt up to 7 ibuttons
into the unit and when one of these was used the unit would pulse an
output for either 2 or 10 seconds. I have one on my front door. This
output would then open the electronic lock.

The guy making them has gone out of business although his web site is
still there but I don't remember its address - anyone?

He sent me the hex for the PIC chips which means the hard part is
available if you are game. Just the components to find and PCB to make.

Alternatively other folks on the list have played with ibuttons and they
may be able to help.

Not quite remote control but maybe close enough?

Ian

Subject: [ukha_d] Remote Control Garden Gate

I'm obviously putting the wrong words into google..as I'm sure someone
must
of done this before...

I'd like to buy a remote control lock for our garden gate. I'd like
something with a remote keyfob (like your typical car) which will open the
lock.
It doesn't need to actually open the gate via a motor.. just unlock it.

Ideally when the door is opened and then shut again it should lock..
rather
than having to remember to lock the gate with the remote control. I can
find
loads of companies that do the garage gate automation but nothing in the
DIY
small gate kind of thing.

The gate is at the side of the house and so getting 240VAC or 12VDC to the
area is easy.

Any suggestions please ? ....and no it doesn't need to have a usb port,
X10,
RS232 or RS422 interface.. but it does need to be as cheap as chips
Merci.

Davey
