I think that that highlights the problem wit TTG and its use with speed
camera databases. The cameras are just "Point of Interest", no
different to
a cinema or post office. As such, they are just items plonked on the map
at
specific coordinates and do not include Road and direction information
(e.g.
A11 Northbound). Without this information, it is impossible for TTG to
distinguish between a camera looking one particular way on the road.

As you have seen, de-selecting the option to only show those POIs that are
on your route, has the advantage of including cameras that are on either
carriageway of a dual carriageway but the disadvantage that it includes
those on adjacent roads. Given that the main driver for including POIs is
for information such as Cinemas, Museums, Train Stations, ..., etc.; I
think
that this behaviour is correct.

If TomTom were to consider extending the POI functionality to use
(optional)
fields in the POI database, such as Road number and direction, I guess TTG
could work better as a safety camera warning system.

Anyway, I better stop now as I'm probably off topic ;)

That's interesting, cos I did try it out yesterday, - I just happened to
have installed the database from PocketGPS as recommended in the previous
couple of posts. - It was one of the first ones I googled across....

I drove out to Thurrock Lakeside along the A13, where I already know all
the
permanent camera locations by heart (or I think I do!), and I reckon it was
probably about 70-80% right... It definitely did not warn about a couple
that it should have, and there were also warnings that had me wondering
where on earth a camera was. In one instance, I could see from the icon on
the display that the camera it was warning be about was on the road beneath
the flyover I was on....
