Thanks for the replies. I decided in the end to just get an Ethernet ADSL
modem which is a direct replacement for the current cable modem
functionality.

Guess I'll just redirect all my email to gmail and (slowly) modem it off
directly until I get ADSL.

Cheers,

-Dan

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT?] Cable Modem Replacement Advice

Hi,

Looking for a neat plug-in solution for replacing a cable modem.

Currently have a cable modem with Ethernet out plugging directly into my
main linux server (running mail, dns, dhcp). I'm probably moving to an
either ADSL or telephone modem area and am looking for an easy plug in
replacement. Probably looking for a router that will handle either the
ADSL
and modem connection and present Ethernet connection to server - this means
I can plug in direct with no fuss and minimal reconfiguration.

I really like the look of the Vigor routers especially since they do ADSL
and WiFi, but don't know of any that do modem fallback if ADSL not present.

Any recommendations welcome

Regards,

-Dan
