Re: [OT?] Cable Modem Replacement Advice

The one we are considering (Vigor 2600Gi) has an ISDN fallback (Home
Highway) in case of ADSL failure - I think it is seamless (but we haven't
bought it yet!)

You can see it here http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2600g.html

Don't know if they have one with a dial-up modem backup - it would be a bit
lame. It would be similar to a supercomputer I saw once - It had an Abacus
mounted inside a glass frame with a message on it saying "In case of
Power Failure Break Glass"

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT?] Cable Modem Replacement Advice

Hi,

Looking for a neat plug-in solution for replacing a cable modem.

Currently have a cable modem with Ethernet out plugging directly into my
main linux server (running mail, dns, dhcp). I'm probably moving to an
either ADSL or telephone modem area and am looking for an easy plug in
replacement. Probably looking for a router that will handle either the
ADSL
and modem connection and present Ethernet connection to server - this means
I can plug in direct with no fuss and minimal reconfiguration.

I really like the look of the Vigor routers especially since they do ADSL
and WiFi, but don't know of any that do modem fallback if ADSL not present.

Any recommendations welcome

Regards,

-Dan
