In my limited experience, I'd recommend IR over RF. I find RF too
susceptible to interference. The spread from an IR transmitter means that
positioning isn't critical, though obviously you have to be in the same
room.

A colleague of mine has some cheap Philips IR ones, I have some
significantly more expensive Philips RF ones. He gets better sound quality
on his. On the other hand, I can get a signal on mine while sitting on the
bog down the corridor.
