Well actually the reason for the steam is because NY uses steam for
heating=
.

They have a steam generation plant that dates back to 1882.

There is more than 100miles of mains and service pipes that make up the
Con=
=20
Edison steam system, and the pipes range from 1 to 30 inches in diameter.

This is why you see steam rising. The problem with this, is that in the=20
summer there is still steam rising, and the pipes run through the=20
underground stations and the heat is trapped down there making the=20
underground train station platforms like an oven.
