[OT] : Developing applications for use over the web

Sorry to be Off Topic, but I just wondered if anyone has information that
may help me.

The company I work for develop and maintain a scheduling and repeat booking
system
written in VB6. We are currently redeveloping this product against an SQL
database
(rather than the previous products PICK database -UNIVERSE). As part of
this redevelopment
we want to give simplified access to the booking system over the web. In
the previous
system we did this using ASP with custom DLL's encapsulating the database
access and
business rules This approach works but we find it difficult to keep the
custom DLL's
and ASP in step with changes made to the core product. With redevelopment
and move to
SQL we have taken the opportunity to look again at the available web
technologies.

The main thing is to provide access to a data entry screen and provide
booking confirmation
back to the user , from a remote client using just a PC with a web browser.
 If the client
PC needs software downloaded it must be done over the web automatically
when the page is accessed.
The application requires some fields to be dynamic based on data entered in
previous fields.
e.g. entering a postcode will require access to the database to read the
valid selection of
streets for that postcode. This might have to be designed around by using
separate screens
but would be nice to use one entry screen.

Ease of maintenance is also a issue.

So far the possible solutions I have come with are ;

ASP + Custom DLLs (as before)
Macromedia Director
CITRIX - application over the web (expensive licences)

Does anyone have any other suggestions on products or strategies ?

Thanks for any information you can give.

Marcus
