I use PaperPort which, if I've understood what you've asked for correctly,
will do what you want. http://www.scansoft.com/paperport/

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] OCR scanning + retrival

It's not often that my googling skills let me down, but I am stuck here.

Quite simply I have a CD full with scanned docs. The trouble is in each
file
are hundreads of pages.

I have found a programme that can OCR these files..
http://www.abbyy.com/finereader/.
Very clever programme indeed.

Once the document is scanned, its very easy to search. However, as the
scanned original was not all that great, there is no substitute for
viewing
the original.

So quite simply I want the flexibility of searching a file once its
scanned,
but rather than display the OCR'ed page show the original one.

If anyone here knows of a mailing list or forum that I would benifit from
joining to ask this question please let me know also

Thank you
