I went for a different approach:
First a 8inch touch screen for £149 (touch screen is USB) - item new and
1024 x 768
Second a USB2 to VGA convertor and ran it as a third / fourth monitor of my
main server (cost $89)
So it does not really cost that much, and a much simpler approach.

Tech: USB2 can be taken to 5 metres without issue, then you need extenders.
