Re: A quick Ethernet/Wireless straw poll please

I have read the Circuit Cellar article now and they are using a Rabbit
processor. Rabbit according to the Web supply a wireless CF interface
module complete with code to use it. This dramatically reduces development
time not to mention my receding hairline.

I did a search on the web and the current off the shelf solutions are not
for the AVR I am using and are quite expansive. 300 dollars for the dev
kit is one example. Not looking good for a simple solution. Even after
buying a card there is still the interface circuitry and connector to plug
it all into to consider. It is surprising how quickly the cost and
complexity of a 'simple' solution mounts up.

I really don't know about this.

You're right about USB WiFi - they are slave devices.

However, the CF cards can be used with microcontrollers - there is an
article in this months Circuit Cellar describing a data logging module
that
communicates using a WiFi CF card.

I don't see a 10Mbit connection being a problem - the bandwidth is plenty
for this application, and the new faster hardware is surely going to be
backwards compatible (ie 10/100/1000)
