RE: BT Openworld - Can I just plug a router in?

Pretty much. You'll need to make sure you have all the ISP settings such as
username, passwords, connection type (PPPoA or PPPoE) etc, although the
later tends to be the same for most UK ISP's. I can't comment on the
Netgear, but can highly recommend the BT Intelligent Gateway 1800. Top
notch
router, and you can pick em up real cheap on ebay.

Many thanks

Subject: [ukha_d] BT Openworld - Can I just plug a router in?

Q for a mate actually

He currently has the USB frog modem and wants to buy a
modem/router/firewall/wap box.

Is it simply a matter of unplugging the Frog from the uFilter and plugging
in the router?

Obviously, we'll have to set up the network side of things but it's the
ADSL
connection I'm not sure about.

Will he need to inform BT for them to do something at the exchange?

He's looking at the Netgear box as the replacement (not sure which model
number). Any horror stories about why he shouldn't buy one?

TIA

Regards

Neil
