Yup - I find that our bin men are more than happy to take any any
"techie"
bits ... I just got rid of a load of bits that I couldn't justify keeping
(including a couple of very low spec PCs and a 17" monitor). I put 'em
in
some thick clear bags so they wouldn't get wet and put them beside the bins
with a note saying "Working - if you can make use of it then have
it" and
the bin men grab them for themselves.

The advantage is that now if I forget to put the bins out they walk up to
the house and get them for us. ;-)
