RE: [OT] Netgem freeview lockups and Tivo

I have the BT version of the NetGem box... I really like it, if only the
B?"$"( thing would not lock up. Talked to the support team &
they said put
it into standby... that seemed to do the trick, but then sometimes it would
'miss' the 'change channel' from Tivo which woke it from standby &
would not
be on the correct channel for the recording.

So the solution? Dug out an old timeswitch that was used in the pre HA
days
for controlling a table lamp. Set it so that it is "on" from
0305 to 0300
each day (i.e. "off" for 5 minutes). Also set the NetGem to
'record' for a
couple of minutes at 0308 each day (wakes it from standby, sets a channel).
This "solution" has been up and stable for 8 weeks now.

This really is a kludge... but it works OK.

I have an old Pioneer OnDigital box which suffers the occasional lock-up.

Also a new Panasonic TU30? Box which is nice and fast. Has never locked
up
yet.
