I chose cbus because:
- there's a good deal of online support available here (there's also
cbusforums.com now
too)
- HA support is good - eg xap, xpl (because people on this list have cbus)
and comfort can
talk to cbus
- I only heard good things about cbus
- clipsal seemed to be adding lots of cool stuff (and still are)
- it's cheaper than most (all?) of its competitors

I'm not a sparky, but after going on the cbus course, I understood
everything well enough
to be able to do a self-install with confidence. (and you get hardware
worth more than you
pay for the course as well)
