It's not noise that's generally the problem - it's heat. The more passive
cooling you put into a HTPC/PC/Server/etc to make it quiet, less movement

air there is, this can lead a lot of big hard drives temperatures to

In my main server I now have the 160GB HD in a big aluminium cooler that
fit's into a 5.25" bay. It has fans, but they're not connected (far to
noisy), but it does have vents on the front which draw in a little air and
the added aluminium increases the surface area of the drive many fold. Net
result the temp dropped from 42'C-ish down to a steady 30'C.

All with no increase in noise. The cooler was about =A315.
