Simon
I got enough strange looks from the contractors as I put in about 400
runs of cable, home run lighting circuits, central vac system and MHRV
ducting;)
My loft has office/storage/plant room in it anyway so I really
couldn't have done it your way although it sounds handy. Hopefully I
have enough cable to do everything I want as I really went overboard
with it. I guess I am using less than 10% of the connections
currently.
It will probably be 5-10 years before I build again but if I go for a
bungalow I will certainly look at doing it your way.
Cheers
Mick

Mick
Our house is indeed 2 storey, and we used bison slabs for the first
floor!
All the ground floor connections go through the slabs and straight up
the
upstairs room wall. Most of our walls lined up very well, and those
that
didn't we managed to gently track around onto a nearby wall (i.e.
conduit
not 100% vertical), but all the runs are good *almost* straight runs
(very
easy to put cables into)
The exceptions are the kitchen and the conservatory. The kitchen was
redesigned (minor) after all the tracking was completed, giving us a
phone
point where there previously was a unit. The conduit for this one goes
up to
1st floor, then out through the cavity into the roofspace of the
adjoining
single storey family room. From there it can be routed up to the
"real"
attic. The conservatory was obviously difficult because there are no
walls!
So all the conduit runs under the floor and goes to the attic via
another
room.
There is no problem with this approach if you're prepared to spend
long
enough planning it ,and it took me a *long* time!!!
Also be prepared for strange looks from contractors/electricians when
they
see the amount of conduit you want in....
See www.ccso.co.uk/sb for details on the house, and
http://www.ccso.co.uk/sb/conduit.html
for pics of the conduit (I lead
an
exciting life :)
The only thing hard-wired is the alarm cabling, and most of it is
Cat5E FTP
