Ok, perhaps that was a mistake on my part.. the executable is called mpg123
it's not a directory... so there should be a mpg123 in /usr/bin/
so just do:
ls -la /usr/bin/mpg123
whic will list the file and it's permissions, a simple directory listing
can
be had with just
ls /usr/bin/mpg123

Redhat were a bit sneaky and used mpg321 and named it mpg123 which
was a PITA... unless you knew ...
