Re: Air quality
Sorry for the late response on this issue (just finished Uni for the
evening). Yes this site will provide information from the AUN Sites
(Auomatic Urban Network) and the non automatic sites around the UK. The
data
will provide you with air quality at specific locations around the UK on an
hourly basis, but tends to be generalised for a fairly large area. For
example I think Leicester City have 3 full AUN sites and 7 other real time
monitoring locations for differant pollutants. Real time monitoring is a
very expensive affair. A decent NOx analyser (real time) will cost between
10 and 20k, plus another 10k a year to run and maintain it (in a nice air
conditioned enclosure). A non real time analyser may be as cheap as 3 or 4k
depending on make and type. A PM10 monitor could cost you 30k (Like the
TEOM's used in AUN sites) plus 10k to run it and twice weekly maintenance
by
a technician. Add to this the other pollutants that we measure and you can
see the costs rising rapidly. Hence many authorities tend to use modelling
software like ADMS Urban to try to predict pollution at a street level,
but
at 40k plus for the software, plus a couple of grand for the basic training
to run it, it still isnt a cheap option. I could blather on about air
quality till the cows come home and still only scratch the surface of it. I
hope that this answers some of the questions about air quality and
measuring
it
Simon
