RE: Letter-box style bristle-hole single gang socket

I don't recall seeing them for domestic, but I presume you mean something
like part# DK7705.000 at www.rittal.com (not the greatest photograph :-(( )

What sort of faceplate will you be using ? (plain 'ol white plastic, or
something more exotic ?) and how many cables & what size need to pass
through ?

B&Q et al sell draught excluder strips for doors - some of these styles
have bristles, and screw holes to fix the strip to the door itself. You
could cut the slot in the faceplate & mount these strips behind top
& bottom (i.e. the patress side of the face plate) I'd suggest a hot
glue gun to stick the strips to the faceplate.

An alternative would be something like Rittal part # SZ2573.000 which is
two strips of foam with a slot between to seal cable entries. This option
may provide better support for the cables passing though the aperture.
Again, you're into gluing the foam to the rear of the faceplate.

Other similar Rittal part # are:

DK7825.361
