Did you look at the Idratek stuff? Does the same kind of thing as
CBus/Dynalite/EIB but costs a lot less.

If you can get over the look of them, they might be what your after,
prices for the switches and stuff they have is more comparable to X10, and
are designed to fit in UK backboxes, and they don't require everything to
be run back to a central point.

Either way, putting a couple of runs of cat5 to each switch & socket
wouldn't do any harm, that way it gives you some flexability as to which
system to go for.
