Re: Real to mp3
Hi - new to group (no prizes this week!) Found the exhibition last w/e
very good. I have been asking a few people to see whether it was possible
to
use a plug in to enable Real audio files (e.g.from BBC website) to be
converted to mp3
so they can be heard through units such as Slim.
I had this reply back from Slim:-
There are two known ways to do this, but they are not particularly user
friendly.
1- Nicecast on MacOS lets you make an mp3 stream over http, with the source
being the audio output of a program. Then you make a playlist to the
Nicecast station, and play the playlist.
2- AlienStream, which uses a library called xine to play back the audio.
This will only work on systems where you can install the xine library...
For more information see here: http://www.dur.ac.uk/p.j.heslin/amusements/alienstream/version3/

Kevin P
Hope this is of interest.
