RE: Photo - Ian's LCD Project...
Hi all
Thanks for all the kind words - I'm all bashful now.
Anyway, first off I wold like to add my thanks to everyone involved in the
setup and running of the event. For me it was a huge improvement being in
the main rooms rather than in the gods as last year (due to hotel
organisation of the rooms). I was there all weekend and still didn't get
round all the stands but those I did see were great.
As for my screens - I will be starting on the touchscreen version soon as
I discovered tonight it communicates via serial so all the hardware is
already there, just have to write some software. I have big plans for
setting this up to use both menus and images to create your perfect
interface with the only down side being the coding time, both on the micro
and the PC. Also, as was mentioned earlier I hope to allow you the owner
to setup the messages you want to send as mainly static text with tokens
for the bits that change. the tokens will be defined when the menus are
created and simply inserted at run time when send is pressed. More
thinking needed but it seems OK in principal.
Finally for the moment I also hope to use the display to show messages
from various sources including xAP, xPL (in no particular order) or your
own whatever system. At the moment though I have no idea how to do this.
Loads of work to go yet so it's off to start inserting the Ethernet code
as pretty much everything else now works.
I guess I will have to write up a page or two on the unit and some of my
plans for it now that the first pictures are out there.
Also, although my wife will never see this message a word of thanks should
go to her and the kids as I was keeping impossible hours on the runup to
the event and was very grumpy at times so spare them a thought - and all
those other better half's as well ;-))
Many thanks to one and all.
Ian

The one in photo isn't a touchscreen - u can see the little clear plastic
joystick to the right he's using currently. But Ian already has the same
screen in a touchscreen version and that's what he'll be developing.
