Re: Re: Momentary Light Switches?

Bit of a late follow-up to this one, but since Tim H pointed out that the
lettering is printed on rather than engraved as I originally thought, I
picked one up at the weekend to have a go at it, and I thought I'd share my
results.

I couldn't find any acetone, and isopropanol had no effect whatsoever (I
didn't think it would but I had some lying around...) I have some
hammerite
thinners but was put off using that when I noticed that the instructions
said to only use a metal container for brush cleaning. I didn't fancy
completely melting the switch.

Anyway what *did* work was Halfords rubbing compound. It took off the
lettering without scratching the surface of the switch (at least not that I
could see) so I've ended up with a nice 'normal' looking momentary
lightswitch for under a fiver.

It is a little stiff as I think has been mentioned before, but I find it
easier to operate than the Clipsal switches as the larger rocker gives more
leverage.

it's
applied with something that a solvent could remove I'm not sure. BTW,
Hammerite thinners was the best paint remover I've come across. I put some
in a plastic pot once and it melted the bottom off it ! So it is (was?)
good, but also was based on some particularly nasty solvent IIRC so be
careful :-)
