I successfully did this once in the past - but you have to
be certain you've
got a matching drive. I actually spent an entire day on the
phone before I
found one at the time.

If so, its *sometimes* possible to swap the board on the
HD with a
known-working unit... enough to spin the drive up and
recover any data.

What caused the fault ?  - has the drive been spinning for
days on end
?....
a surge ? etc etc.
