[OT] Camcorder as VCR

I've borrowed a friend's brand new MiniDV camcorder to do a bit of filming.
It's got an analogue input so I can record from a tiny camera I bought from
Maplin. I tried hooking the camera to the camcorder, but I get a really
dark image that flickers and doesn't seem to be relative to what the camera
is viewing. If I plug the camera into the TV, it looks like a nightvision
setting on a camcorder. Also, if I plug another video source into the
camcorder, it works perfectly. Any ideas what could be wrong with it? Is
the camera just not powerful enough? Should I invest in a better camera?

Cheers,
Andy
