Following Mark's advice yesterday, I set it all up last night and had a go
with a couple of CDs. Using the default parameters for LAME, the reading
and encoding for a whole CD took about 15 minutes (450 MB approx). Just
from sitting & watching a couple, I guess the MP3 encoding part took up
about a quarter of the total processing time, the longest part by far was
reading the disc itself.

I did try --insane, and -insane in the EAC external compression
"switches" box, but this caused the encoding (to MP3) part to
fail. I guess I need to read up a bit more about the switches :-/ Maybe
once I set up these switches properly it will take much longer, but a 25%
overhead to do it all at once didn't seem too bad to me :-)

I haven't listened to the MP3s yet - I managed to fall asleep in front of
the telly *again* last night :-(( so will have to experiment with some of
the quality settings.

Thanks for your comments :-)
