RE: Meteor vs Meteor Plus under Linux
If you have the opportunity to run the Meteor on a Windows host or use it
in
connection with an Ethernet to Serial adaptor and hence share it on the
network then read on...
I have a 'Pegasus' unit which is a bit like a Meteor with a dialler built
in. I use this with a xAP connector that supports both the incoming CID
reporting and also allows for dialling out under xAP control. The Pegasus
is made by Crucible, the same people that make the Meteor+ so I suspect
they
are the same command formats. So if you are on Windows the solution
probably
already exists - if not I should be able to add it fairly easily. I don't
have a Linux variant though as it's written in VB6. There are some adjacent
comments about Patricks Linux variant though.
Once you have the Meteor+ xAP'ed it can actually be connected anywhere on
the network and every machine can use the information. That is what is so
useful about xAP. To log the incoming calls to a database requires
additional xAP mini apps - this is not an intended function of the Meteor
connector - all that does is convert the incoming hardware to a standard
CallerID network packet. This application can be achieved in many ways
along
with nice display options for showing incoming callers eg on your PC
screen,
a SliMP3 mp3 player or your Tivo perhaps.
