SQRT()  should give you the squareroot

Area of a circle is PI x Radius x Radius

so in your example 424 = PI x Radius x Radius

Radius = SQRT (424 / PI())

so your diameter is 2 * (SQRT(424 /PI()))

It's been at east a month since I asked an Excel question ;-)

This one should be easy for the maths guru's out there, if I've got a
square
area of 424km (for example), how do I work out the dimensions of the
square,
or, even better, the diameter of a circle based on 424km/sq.
