And many others either just go off, or fade gracefully to zero.  Or
hold for a while and then fade to zero.  Or whatever the
manufacturer fancies, as the behaviour is not part of the spec.

You need to read the datasheet for the dimmer.

But this is a failure mode; the right answer is that the DMX supply
stream should not fail.
