Re: Inaudible noise on telephone lines...



Alternatively, as my main problem is detecting on/off hook status, does
anyone know of a device that can do this reliably.
Ideally it would have some kind of relay output or simply an LED that I
could connect up to HV with an LED sensor.

(e.g. A UK equivalent of the "Line In-Use Indicator" here: http://www.sandman.com/wizard.html)
I was under the illusion that my external modem indicated the line status
but I was wrong.

Yep that's the earth loop hum, they break the earth loop with a transformer
rather than filter out the lower frequencies the higher frequencies of the
video signal still pass through.
Being a transformer they will not allow the DC on the telephone line to
pass
through.
