RE: OT, PaperPort Pro 9 / HP scanjet 5550c

I, like you, also wanted the ADF as I have so much to scan in, rather
defea=
ts the object of the exercise not being able to use it!

The scanner cane with PPP8 bundled with it which was one of the reasons
for=
choosing it in the first place, unfortunately PPP8 can not directly scan t=
o a pdf so I bought the PPP9 upgrade....which cost me =A350! a lot of
money=
for an upgrade I thought...

I have now uninstalled all HP stuff.....here goes....

Tbh, it could be a paperport issue - I use finereader (and love it) so U
can't really comment on PP9...

One of the nice things for me with finereader and the officejet was the
ADF support - I couldn't live without it.

Very interesting Ian, I will certainly try uninstalling the HP stuff.

I have been scanning a page at a time (anyone want an ADF??) and that
works fine, just on multiple pages it goes the way of the pair.

I thought PPP 9 would have been able to use the scanner directly anyway.

Dunno if it's the same issue Brian, but I had something similar using
Finereader and an HP Officejet (same scanner engine I believe).

I found that having installed the HP scanning software, the thing was
utterly borked, but if I ripped it all off, and installed *just* the WIA
driver, it worked fine - and very, very fast.

One thing - mine did the always defaulting to the wrong values thing as
well. I got around it using a copy of Paint Shop Pro - I'm guessing any
bit of TWAIN software should do the trick. Doing the "acquire an
image"
> preview > scan cycle seemed to make it remember the settings,
whilst
(strangely) just doing a scan on it's own didn't.

I'm on Windows XP (but it works on Server 2003 just as well).

Ymmv, but let me know how you get on...

Ian.

I am totally p-off with this setup.... it crashes at the slightest click
of the mouse....

I have looked on the PP site for updates and am fully update. I have
looked at the HP website and nothing there....

What happens is I scan in a document or 2, the hp scanning software
opens and loads the documents to the screen, unfortunately this always
defaults to millions of colours, I then change the image to B&W
scan/scan-profile/load, select the B&W option and load, and then select
the next document, sometimes this is where it stops, if it continues I
can then select B&W again for the next document and if it has not yet
crashed and all the documents are now B&W I select accept and this is
when a message comes up in the background saying unable to contact the
TWAIN device and promptly closes the hp software....

Can anyone out there who uses this software give me any advise please? I
am getting desperate as I have about 30 years worth of documents to scan
in!!!

Cheers,

B.
