In the olden days yes, Orange & T-Mobile operate on 1800MHz and O2 and
Voda operate on 900MHz. Dual(and tri) band handsets these days mean that
that's not an issue anymore though.

Orange are very particular about testing before releasing handsets and
approving every software revision so it can take Orange longer to
initially launch a handset and any updates that are done are normally a
few versions behind the manufacturer's latest version.

As for T-Mobile, I honestly don't know - it's possibly down to the
marketing department what gets launched and they didn't think that
handset would sell in sufficient quantities, or they had problems with
testing that unit with their network or something, I'm just stabbing in
the dark really.

There is nothing that stops you buying the phone that you want sim free
and putting your T-Mobile sim in it, but that will probably cost
significantly more than getting a subsidised upgrade from your provider.

Have they decided not to launch it at all, or just not until X date in
the future ?

Cheers
