Many thanks

I was obviously searching for the wrong thing, well with the wrong
keywords.  Came up with this in the end:
http://www.onlineweather.com/v4/uk/sun/Southend_on_Sea.html
Will stick it into a database and read it from there, it should be ok
for 5 years :)

A quick search on Google with 'how to calculate sunrise sunset' yields
quite a few pages and just a quick look at say this link seems to
achieve both of your tasks. (one via email) - Maybe some of the other
pages may have the actual algorithms on there
