I love these icle modern PLCs. They are available from several
manufacturers, and some have an LCD on the front which is fine for
programming. I have used several in non-HA roles, and one at the
office controlling lights, interfaced with a security alarm
(througfh relay contacts) and X10 via a universal module thing. The
phone interface I mentioned recently blipped the universal module,
so the inside and outside lights were on when I arrived. And went
off once I'd left. Very neat. And when the alarm rang the lights
went on. Did it with a PLC (a Siemens Logo) 'cos I had one hanging
around.....
I did have a "proper" PLC (omron, ladder programmed) in the last
house dedicated to controlling a set of curtains...
