Chris,
Thanks for this. I would be interested in reading about your set-up when
you get it posted...
The idea of a PBX in S/W appeals as it can be updated with new features as
required, and expanded...
Still trying to convince myself it will be worth the initial cost for the
i/f cards, looking for a 2x6 configuration. I have a PC available for the
task and a 100M LAN with ADSL connection.

Yes and no - theres a patch out there thats reported working, however,
personally i choose to get a meteor and feed asterisk via an AGI
script with the CLI.
Be very warey of the single fxo cards, its best to get the new TDM
card that supports FXO modules. I get a lot echo on the single FXO
card, also im getting a lot of problems with noise on the line, but i
havent ironed out if thats a cable problem yet.
ISDN2e is a lot better im led to believe, but I cant justify getting a
brand new line for it yet.

(probably not), ATA, what about the new Vigor router can this be used ?
Again what suits the UK?
I personally am using sip phones where possible. I have a Cisco 7960
and it works a dream, you could feed a DECT Base Station with the FXS
extension if you wanted that works well. I personally use an IAXy to
feed my DECT basestation. Beaware you can get delays depending on the
dect phone you use.
The Vigor has 2 built in FXO ports, you could easily get it to
communicate to the * box, i've played with the SIP functionality with
it but not set it up yet as they where for a homeworker not mine =)
> Are there any VoIP service providers that provide a 'benifit' to going
the Asterisk route, cheap or free calls, again UK based services ?
At the moment theres not many out there, I personally use FWD for my
1-800 and 1877 calls to the US. Its very easy to setup a dialplan so
that if you dial 001800 etc it routes via FWD. I will be publishing
some details shortly on my website of my asterisk setup, just need to
get round to it!
Kind Regards,
Chris Bond
