VOB to MPEG transcoding speed...Advice needed.

Hi All,

I've been told that transcoding is very CPU intensive but isn't 120
mins to encode a 49 min program from VOB to VCD format excessive?

I'm using MPEG2VCR to do the encoding on a P4 1.7 1GB PC under XP
Pro. Can anyone offer some advice which may speed this process up?
