The document you need is called "The Tarrif, Volume 2", which is
published annually by the CEC. This gives classifactions of all the
different types of goods, and the rates applicable to each.

There's an online version at http://www.uk-customs-tariff.co.uk/
- but
I've never used it, so can't really comment :-(

If you are just doing a few imports, you're probbly better off phoning
the helpline on 0845 010 9000. I find they normally put you through to
a real person within 2-3 minutes, and that person WILL stay on the
line until your question is resolved, even if they need to consult
with a colleague during the process. (This is what I do).

It tends to massively speed up import if you get the shipper to
include the proper classification code on the package. The codes look
like "8520909090" (this is the code I used for the Rio Receivers,
for
example - the import duty was 10%, but if they had been able to
record, it would have been higher).

Finally, and you probably know this, the full calculation of what you
typically pay includes paying VAT on everything including the flipping
import duty!

Regards,

Mark
