Another formulaic simplification is the easy way to determine what
happens when you place two resistors of arbitrary value in
parallel.  The formula simplifies to R = (r1*r2)/(r1+r2)

example:

6 ohm and 8 ohm speakers in parallel, whats the total resistance?

r = (6*8)/(6+8)  = 48/14 = 3.43 ohms.
