RE: Speaker Wiring

OK, so.....
2 sets of speakers in parallel is really the particle limit on a "4ohm
safe"
amplifier.
Is going above the 'normal' 8ohm in series safe for most amplifiers or is
their an upper limit or effects of such?

This sounds like a subject for the FAQ?

Hi Rob

Two 8 Ohm speakers when wired in Parallel will be 4 Ohms.

Two 8 Ohm speakers when wired in series will be 16 Ohms.

For more than 2 speakers in series then just keep adding.
For more than 2 speakers in parallel then use the equation Tony gave
you!

Eh? In English man, in English!

You are safe to parallel wire them.

When you series wire them you add up the impedances - two 8ohm speakers
in series would give you 16ohms.

When you parallel them then the maths takes over... :o) where Rtotal =
1/(1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 ... )

Don't know why but this subject always fuddles my brain!

Want to connect two pairs of speakers to one amplifier.

Speakers are rated at 8ohm and the amplifier is rated as 4ohm safe.

So can I wire in series or parallel?

Am I right in thinking that series wired would leave 8ohms at the
amplifier and if in parallel 4ohms?

Cheers

Rob
