about stereo ? I'm thinking that I may actually place the two speakers in
diagonally opposite corners of the rooms. I figure that at least this way I
will get a stereo effect regardless of where I eventually place the

In home installs, we've always used either special single
"stereo" speakers,
which usually have two tweeters and a bass unit with twin voice-coils, or
four single loudspeakers, wired across the diagonals:
A B
B A
It's still not perfect, but it's as good as we've found.
Steve.
