The thing that put me off using such web-based services is that you need to
record your eBay password with them - so that they can "log in"
as you and
place that last minute bid.
There are some client based applications around as well - it just means you
need to leave a PC on even when you are asleep (oh - like that's a problem
for folks in this group !!!)
You could try one like "Auction Sentry".
