I use a crazy alternative - a MONO multizone system, for all the non-
important zones like bathroom etc.

http://www.cloud.co.uk/products/integ/4650.htm

This thing (of which I use an earlier version, 44/50 which has 4
stereo line inputs rather than 6) is 50w rms per channel, and is
about 750 quid. Built like a truck. 19 inch rack mount. Has simple
in-wall controls (which are easily faked by automation - its just
pots and resisors on the end of 3 or 4 core cable, so Cat5 is fine
(not that I've actually got round to it) for which you need the VCA
module.

David.
