I looked at a few when I was designing my garden a couple of years ago, but
I promise, some graph paper and set of coloured pencils is much better,
even
if you're ham-fisted like I am. Any good landscapers will be able to
interpret your drawings. You could probably do the same on any graphics
app, but it would take sooo much longer unless you're a pro.

BTW, if you happen to be near Colchester, I can recommend a good landscape
company.

Apologies for being off topic.

Does anyone know of a good bit of software for designing garden layouts ?

I've looked at a few that are available, and most seem to be by Europress
and pretty poor by the reviews given.

Im not really any good with a pencil and watercolours so by hand is
definately out of the question.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Dean.
