That's not a javascript function that I'm aware of.
Also, I really want to do it all in one go because I _should_ be able to
with regex.
All I'm really doing is making sure someone has entered some characters,
and not just spaces or carriage returns...
I need to validate a number of web form input fields this way, and some
are up to 7000 characters, so speed is important....
