Feel those fires burning now..................
You are right of course about almost any decent spec uC being able to do
Ethernet. Of course Microchip did not treat me to a meal and bunch of
goodies and playing with the memory problems on their 8k chips drove me to
Atmel in the first place. In my case the PRLLC stuff comes royalty free
and in the compiler I use and on a hardware base that I have invested in
the development tools for. Pretty convincing arguments really.
The lack of DHCP will not stop me developing applications etc. and it can
always be added afterwards given enough knowledge and patience.
Atmel actually do an Ethernet dev kit but it is a little expensive for my
budget.
Ho hum, off to play with my samples of 1 wire 4k eeprom from Dallas.

You wouldn't be saying that if Arizona Microchip had treated you to a
nice slap up meal in a swanky hotel to launch their new products, and
given you a sackful (well, a CD binder full) of goodies into the
bargain!!
By which, of course, I mean to say that Ethernet is possible on pretty
much any of the decently specced MCUs from Microchip.
